It’s not a smooth cut and the shots jump from picture to picture.
What is flash back
This is when you have an image that goes back into time, have different effect and then goes back into the present.
What is establishing shot
filmmaking and television production sets up, or establishes the context for a scene by showing the   relationship between its important figures and objects
What is shot reverse shot
This is when you have an image which is set on someone then you see the person that they are talking to and go back to the main character (me, you, me)
What is crossing cutting
When you have got different images and you want then to fade into each of them at the same time.
What is reaction shot
When you can see someone reactions in the shots.
What is elliptical shot
When you have got lots of different shots but you can cut it down to make it less and isn’t needed also if you can tell the story in 2 shots then why you are going to use 10.
What is poetical editing
This isn’t a set story, it’s more abstract.
What is P.O.V shot

Always have to keep camera the same side of the action.
Montage
Series of shots cut together to tell a story in a condensed period of time. Often breaks continuity. Minimal diagetic sound, usually non-diagetic soundtrack.
Cut on action
Cutting two shots – matching the action in each on eg: cut from wide to close up in the middle of an action.
Eye line match
The eye line between two characters matches – eg: they are looking at each toher or looking into a space > then we see that space.
Graphic matching
Cutting two shots together which uses the same shape/colour as a way of linking instead of narrative purposes. Suggests a relationship between two images.

Juxtaposition of images
Two contrasting images – makes more impact to the editing. Used a lot in intellectual montage.
Dissolve / cross fade
One shot slowly replaces the other, so that both are temporarily present on the screen. It creates a softer cut. Usually suggest a relationship between the two images eg: one character is thinking about the other.

Different ways of moving from one shot/scene to another. Cut, fade, dissolve, wipe.
Cut
Where you cut the shot. Cut shots together = putting them next to one-another. One shot is replaced by another without any transition – basic editing.

Close up on an object or other part of a shot – used to draw attention to the significance of the object or to avoid a jump cut.
Cut away
Similar reason to a cut-in, a shot that shows something else in the scene that did not appear in the shot before

Unit 16:1:1 (Editing)

An Introduction to Editing

The Gloaming

Editing is when you have got different shots which you have filmed then cut and paste the footage which you would like to use and then joined them together to make a final story. Elliptical editing is when you have a long footage but you can cut out some of it because its not needed and waste a lot of time, here’s an example the girl is very tried on minute you see her and then the next minute she’s waking up. Another example is one minute you see the girl bending down then we see a close up of the ring then the camera is back onto her picking it up and standing up slowly. They have used long shots because they are making you feel like you are there in the footage for examples: the river makes you feel like your standing in the water, also the long shot shows us that she has just woken up and don’t know where she is and she is alone.
Right non-diagetic sound is when there is music playing in the background and there natural sounds for example birds, sea water, animals and also its when there is music but the character cant hear it but the viewers can.
In this video she looks down and looks right down at the bottom then we see the ring on the grass as like she has seen it, bent down to pick it up.

 Hustle
Overhead establishing shot achieves the director to set out the space for the actions to take place and the characters position within the room.
A shot reverse shot is when you have an image which is set on someone then you see the person that they are talking to and go back to the main character (me, you, me).
Eye line matching shot is when someone is looking down at someone else and you and sees that the other person is looking up while they both are talking so we assume that they are looking at each other.
The reason why the director cuts to the members of the group is so that we can see their reaction to the plain or to the other members of the group; they normally do it one by one or in two shots.
Whip shot is a slick shot it moves from one location and time to back to what we was watching.
The effects of using quick cuts are 26 different shots they can be long or a second or 2. also its creates a fast rhyme which keeps the story moving along and keeps the audience on their toes.

Editing: The Invisible Art
Cross cutting is when you have got different images and you want then to fade into each of them at the same time.
Reaction shot is when you can see someone reactions in the shots.
Seamless editing is where you seem to know what you are doing with your editing, but the more and more you get deeply involved with the project you get less aware of what is happening.
A jump cut is when it doesn’t have a smooth cut and the shots jump from picture to picture.
A flash back is when you have an image that goes back into time, have different effect and then goes back into the present. The reason why people put flash back into their video is because we might not know what happened in the past so the show us the past and present.
Editing can be used by poetically because it isn’t a set story it’s more abstract.

UNIT:22:3 (Evaluation Short Film)

Evaluation
Livia has set an assignment which had been completed in groups of three; I worked with Alex and Geff, we had to make a short film on anything we could come up with. I really enjoyed this project it was fun, interesting and exciting because we had to come up with an idea which we could bass our story on and I am very creative when it come to making u story line.

Right this is were my imagination takes place. My story is about a girl who has been in a relationship with her boyfriend for over a year and has got some important new which she has to share with him. They walk to college and they are in the same class together. When Alex try’s to talk to boyfriend Geff he doesn’t pay her any attention. She continues to try and get his attention but doesn’t work his either listening to music, talking to someone or his phone rings. Eventually she gets really mad and shouts the news out in front of everyone in the class and runs out. Geff is very shocked and don’t know what to do, his got a lot of thinking to do so he left his phone in college and walked out.

I think that my storyline is original because my storyline is based on reality nowadays girls are getting pregnant like everyday. I feel that my storyline was interesting because the characters I picked to play the roles played it very well and also made it look funny and everyone enjoyed watching it. I also believe my short film was suitable for the assignment brief because we had to have to people playing the characters; we had to have a subject which we could set it on and I picked; girl being pregnant with her boyfriend. I might be able to improve this assignment if I had to do it again I think I would use a better camera for example canon 500, have more steady shots and also don’t make the film as long as it was make it about a minute and 30 seconds.

Well when I started to plan my short film I had to make a storyboard so it gave me a brief of what I wanted in each scene, where I wanted to film each footage and how I wanted each camera angles. I feel that I could have improved my planning a bit better because I didn’t have a lot of time and I wasn’t in college for like a week so it was all rushed at the last minute.

In this assignment I played five roles producer, script writer, director, camera person and the editor. In each role it was very frustrating because you can’t be in five different places at the same time. Also where it was a last minute thing I had so much stress on me because I had to find people to do the acting, get the equipment, made sure everything was working well and how I imagined it would turn out to be like. I feel that I did the directing very well, script writing went well as well because I’ m very creative when it come to an assignment like making up your own story’s and also the editing because I’m very creative and love making up the story as I go along for example add sound effects, normally effects cut and paste and putting all the footage into one so I can make up the final story.

I think I picked just the right people to work with in this project because they played the part just right they worked very well together and with me for example I didn’t really have a story line by the time we started to film so they worked with me to create a story so that we could crack on. I worked with Alex and Geff, the story line was good because you would have never expected to see them to in a relationship or even having sex but you never know what life can bring to you.
I loved the finish footage of my short film; it was just amazing in just short amount of time to produce what we did in the matter of two hours. People in my class loved my short film it made everyone laugh and made everyone watch it over and over again because they really enjoyed watching it. I was very pleased because I got a lot of good feed back for example saying ‘keep up the good work, it was very funny, entertaining and interesting’ I got one bad feedback saying ‘have more steady footage’ if I was to do this project again all I would do to improve it is have more time to plan it and don’t leave it to the end so you are confused and don’t know how, what, when, who.
