Advertising Workbook (Task 6)

Explain who regulates TV advertising in the UK?
ASA -(advertising standards Agency) is the independent regulator advertising across all media, including marketing on the website.

Explain the process of how to complain abut a TV advert which you thought was offensive in some way.
There are four steps:

  • You can complain about an advert on their website
  • You can call, text or email them with your complain
  • Someone will contact you and help you solve your case
  • Complaints are all anonymous unless your trying to get your name of the mail list
Explain what hap penes in the advert
Celebs get bleed-out while talking because it looks like they are going to start swearing by using the 'F word' but instead they start talking about FAMIE  and how they can help out for example hey give out there website. the main message that they are trying to put across is that famine is  man made so everyone can help out.

Explain why the advert was banned.
The reason why they banned this advert because they misinterpreted, swearing, bad body language and very aggressive and also they use celebs to get their point across and its not good because a lot of people look up to them and they are encouraged  by celebs.

Do you think the regulators were right to ban this advert?
In my own opinion I disagree with this advert being banned because they weren't swearing an even if they were they got bleed out, they were talking about Famine which means is a widespread scarcity of food; they talk about good and bad points for example; how we can stop people from starving and also they were talking about if people don't help lots of people are going to die. This is a situation were everyone can help out because it is man-made. They also give you a website to go on and look how it's helped people, what they do, what we can do etc. They use music in the back ground its loud, rocky and catches your attention. They also use repetition to make you remember what they are talking about because famine is the main point of this advert. They use celebs to get people attention because it persuades them when they see someone on television that they look up to or want to be like. If you watch television and you saw two adverts that were the same but had different celebs and one of them was your favourite celebs which one would you want to watch?. People understand adverts when they see there favourite actors, celebs, singers ect, it makes them more interesting and makes them watch the advert instead of changing the channels. This is how adverts get people to carry on watching there adverts and that's how people make there money because everyone is inspired and the adverts put there point across to the world. Overall I think that this advert is very powerful because it is talking about a very important point to the world about the world and how we can make a difference in our world, so in my opinion I disagree with them banning this advert!

Summarise your main points
In my video I have spoken about how people can complain about adverts which ain't suitable also went through the steps how to make complaints. I've also explained what's happening in this advert and why they might of banned this advert. I've also ended my video with my own opinion.

Advertising Workbook (Task 5)

Advert 1

The advert that I will be talking about is Garnier (hair dye for women). This advert is suitable for only females, from ages 25+. The audience demographic has a range of different audience for example A/B/C1/C2 this means people that earn a lot more money and also have a lot more time on their hands for example lawyers, doctors, teachers, nurses etc, The reason why I have picked these ranges is because they have money and have a lot of time on their hands so they can go out and experiment and treat themselves to all different types of products. They make this advert look very interesting because they have used a actor off of Sex in the City, Sarah Jessica Parker the reason why I think that this advert looks interesting and people will buy this product because she's in her 40s, she still looks good, she's loves it and the product still works for her. Also if people see actors that inspire them, they are going to be convinced that this is the best product for them to buy it.

Advert 2

The advert that I will be talking about is Cadburys Chocolate (Dairy Milk). This advert is suitable for males and females, from ages 7- 40, the reason why I've given this advert the age range between this two ages is because when you get a certain age you don't really like to eat chocolate and you don't find things as funny as you would if your a teenager. The audience demographic has a range of different audience for example B/C1/C2/D/E  the reason why I have chosen this range is because the advert is funny, interesting and also chocolate isn't expensive so anyone can buy it for example students, unemployed, drivers, plumber etc. The reason why I have picked to talk about this advert is because I find it very funny and its interesting because they have picked children to sale their product which shows that once you have a glass of the Cadburys chocolate you will have half full a joy.

Advert 3

The advert that I will be talking about is Evain water. This advert is suitable for males and females, I would say the age range is about from the ages 7+ because everyone had to drink water in their life and there isn't a age limit to drink water but I would say from the age of 7 because I have to give a age. The audience demographic has a range of different audience for example A/B/C1/C2/D/E the reason why I have picked everyone as an audience is because everyone drinks water and it's not like they can't effort it because it's only 50p for a small bottle and £1 a big bottle. I picked to talk about this advert because it is strange, babies are roller skating  around listen to music while dancing. They are trying to make Evain look like it's the best water in the world.

Advertising Workbook (Task 4)

Advert 1

The advert that I will be talking about is Fairy Up Liquid, the reason why I have chosen to talk about this advert is because it's got a lot of persuasive techniques for example there is repetition of the word soft, also they repeat the brand name. They use family values, this means that they have picked a family in the advert to try and sell their product. The reason why repetition of the word 'soft' is a persuasive technique is because it makes you realise how soft Fairy Up Liquid really is. The reason why they repeat the brand name is because they want you to remember the product brand. Also they have made this advert look interesting because they have used a family to sell their product, it appeals to the audience for example 20+ because its for washing up the dishes and people who are that age have their own houses and that's what the advert is showing. The product USP (unique selling point) is that Fairy Up Liquid is supposed to keep your hand soft during and after washing up. The reason why its good to have a unique selling point is because it persuades you to buy their products over anyone else's.

Advert 2

This advert is about Carlsberg beer. The main persuasive technique is to show a rich luxurious life style which taps into our aspirational tendencies. This means we associate how good the apartment is with how good Carlsberg beer is, and you would want to be like the people in the advert because they are showing to be rich and friendly, and they also drink Carlsberg beer so we associate that with how we would want to be. The product USP (unique selling point) is that it fits in with the lifestyle that we wish we had.

Advert 3

The advert that I'm going to talk about is moneysupermarket.com. The persuasive techniques they use are repetition of the website (moneysupermarket.com), and they use a millionaire celebrity Peter Jones which promotes successful career and you can trust what he is saying because he is talking about money and he knows what he is talking about he knows how to handle his money. The product USP (unique selling point) there are more deals on moneysupermarket.com than on any other websites which makes it seem convenient and is good value.
